Welcome to our Reception website page. We will be adding photographs on to the class Twitter page and here on a photo subpage. This will help you to see what we are doing in class. There will also be class letters added. If you have any other ideas of things you would like to see on this page then please let myself, Mrs Spencer-Peck, Mrs Hulton or Mrs Peeling know.

Welcome From Percy.
Welcome to Reception. I cannot wait to meet everyone. The classroom has been a very busy place over the summer holidays. A man has been in painting all the room and then there has been lots of buzz getting things ready for the start of term. I think you will all love the classroom and I am looking forward to having lots of fun with you.
I will let you into a little bit of a secret. I sometimes find some of learning a little bit tricky. Mrs Bowman says that it is fine though because there are lots of teachers in Reception to help. We could all do some learning together.
I love the autumn term because not only do I meet you all and make lots of new friends, we also do exciting things learning all about ourselves and keeping healthy, celebrating firework night and celebrating Christmas. We do lots of singing, acting, painting, drawing, building, activities outside and my favourite thing...listening to stories.
Anyway, I am going to pop off because it looks like there is a role play house in the classroom and I might have a little play in it before you all arrive!

Phonics and Reading Books in Reception.
Phonics - We deliver 'Essential Letters and Sounds' (from the start of the Summer Term 2022).
Essential Letters and Sounds is a Systematic Synthetic Phonics (SSP) programme which has been validated by the Department of Education

Demonstration Video - The video below demonstrates myself and last years Reception class sounding out a word using the ELS spelling sequence. This is a strategy that the scheme uses to encourage the children to listen to all the sounds (phonemes) they can hear in words before they write them. Children will not have to do this with every word they write. However, if there is a word they are struggling with or in the early stages of writing, this is a strategy we will now be using throughout EYFS and KS1. I apologise for it being quite quiet. We could not get it any louder. I am sure your child will be able to help though as they are becoming more familiar with this strategy already.
Reading - The reading scheme/books that we use are produced by Oxford University Press and are linked to the programme mentioned above.
Children are assigned physical books and eBooks from Oxford Owl weekly. www.oxfordowl.co.uk
Children have their own individual logins to enable them to access books that have been specifically assigned to them in correspondence with their phonics learning in school. The decodable books provide opportunities to practice the letters and sounds taught that week and/or revise previously taught sounds.

September Parent Welcome Meeting - 23.9.24
The PowerPoint and some documents that were referenced during the meeting are available below. A welcome resource pack was handed out during the meeting. These packs will be sent home on Tuesday with children whose families were unable to attend.
